 Urdaneta City Public Market

Our Public Market.

I started this one so that we can have a single thread where we can post pics, share comments, stories, & basically everything about our public market. THE public market. 8-)

Here are some pictures I took from all four corners as well as the front (where the bldg name is) of the structure. I wanted to show just how large the public market really is. These are pics from the outside. I'll take pictures of stuff inside the market & maybe even a view of Urdaneta from the market's 3rd floor when I go home for the holy week. :)

Hahaha! Thanks silverjaws. Napagod nga ako sa pagkuha ng mga pics na yan eh. Ang init pa. But it's worth it kasi nakunan ko ng buo yung market. Sunday kasi so walang traffic. ;D

My thoughts on our public market:

1. It's huge! Probably the largest north of Manila but I'm pretty sure it's the largest in the Ilocos region. I thought the Vigan & Laoag City markets were huge but after the completion of the Urdaneta market, those two dwarfed in comparison to the latter.

2. It's clean... for now. Let's do our part in keeping it that way.

3. Like silverjaws pointed out, it looks "brand new" but for how long? I wish they hadn't painted it white. Maybe beige or light brown or gray.. Something that would cover up the effects of dust, smoke & everything that makes a building look dirty or old. These effects are very visible on white colored buildings. They should have painted it with the same color scheme as Magic Mall. ;D

4. It looks like a giant shoe box! The Urdaneta City administration shares one thing in common with Mr. Henry Sy Sr... they have no sense of style! I've posted these pics on a different forum and some people even thought it was a ship!

Here are verbatim comments about our public market. I got these after posting the same pics in another forum. They're mostly positive but there are some funny yet irritating comments. Irritating because they are true.

Sinjin P: "Cool. Very white and clean, looks like a ship "

Tyronne: "Nice photos of the new Public Market"

Dinabaw: "nice! kala ko barko sa una kung tingin hehe , well hope they can maintain the cleanliness after so many years!"

Ericlucky290: "Oo nga sana they can maintain cleanliness kaya lang kasi di marunong magtapon ng basura ang mga Pinoy."

Here's a brand spanking new photoblog courtesy of The Main Man. Another one of his informative and very entertaining photoblogs. This one features the public market: Urdaneta City Public Market - An Inside Look

To The Main Man:

Sir, once again I tip my hat to you for the talent & effort you put into making these photoblogs. These photoblogs always seem to teleport me from my toxic office desk all the way back home to Urdaneta. :)

Yeah, I hope it can maintain the "brand new" look for years to come.

Before I've discovered UCO, I've been posting stuff on SkyScraperCity.com (SSC). It's a forum that is supposedly dedicated to disussions on skyscrapers but it has welcomed threads about cities, infrastructure, travel, news, etc.. The Philippines is well represented as it has its countless sub-forums & threads. There is a Pangasinan thread where everything about the province can be discussed. I stumbled upon it when I was scouring for information regarding SM City Urdaneta. ;D I usually repost here in UCO the stuff that I post in SSC.

Here's the link to the Pangasinan thread:

I'm registered under the same username - tracymack. Register ka rin using your UCO username para naman hindi lang ako yung Urdanetan dun. :)

taga-baguio ako...malaki ang potential ng urdaneta sa agri & business economy but ang napansin kong edge ng ibang cities & town ay Tourism Industry which is one of the highest-income contributing factor sa progress...sabagay wala siyang beautiful beaches like alaminos, pagudpud, etc.or historical heritage like vigan's or Faith paradise like Manaoag Church,atbp....I saw nothing special & DISTICNT or something that will mark a footprint in the mAp for Urdaneta to be known......Sayang iyong Acacia trees na pinutol sa cIty proper..Urdaneta city before looks like elegant city of eastern pangasinan having a concept of Spanish mediterranean...wala man lang park na matino...Mayor's square is not that good & very untidy & small...
I hope may ipatayo silang ecological park or public garden square na pang world-class at tourist spot na maituringan....It would be nice pag malapit iyon sa Immaculate Cathedral kasi may pag ka conceot ng spain iyong place..tapos may pine trees and old ediffice doon ng OLLA n pang heritage......tapos it MUST BE good for rejuvenation, strolling at something to be proud of....at sana ang concept ng park ay Spanish style..iyong punong-puno ng floral ornaments, exemplary landscaping, historical eddifice at may mga european style hotels sa palagid.parang one-concept communtiy ...parang sa tagaytay at dito sa baguio....I hope maipaalam ito sa City officials

Sige po maraming salamat ..God bless you all....God bless Urdaneta City

We're really proud of the new public market but we business owners are still hoping that Mayor would lower down the rental fees for the stalls and stores.

The high rental fees & business taxes are one of the reasons why Urdaneta is the highest income earner in the entire Ilocos region. It's good for the city but not for business owners. I think if the mayor lowers the rental fees & business tax, Urdaneta's income would NOT be jeopardized. Yes, collection is lesser when fees are lowered but this will be offset by more businesses entering the city encouraged by the lowered fees.

True! You have a very good point tracymack, I just hope Mayor or even councilor San Juan (who's actually assigned to manage the new public market) would realize that. we'll just keep hoping for the best...we're trying to keep up with the fees. Actually most of us our delayed for 3-5 mos. i mean, we have not paid our fees yet, some are even longer. This is the reason why you'll see a lot of closed stalls, coz either they just gave up or they were forced to close down as in evicted. we're only thankful coz they're giving us more time and chance to pay our dues. But then again, where can business owners get 8k to 10k a month for the rental fee when they're only selling RTWs, grocery, and the like. While some are into beauty parlors, eyewears, etc. You do not expect these businesses to earn 5k a day?!! so it is really impossible for them to afford their stores. They have no choice though coz the new public market is the only place where they could put up their businesses...i just remembered that before the new public market, before the fire and all that, our stalls are much bigger and the fee is just half of what we are paying now... I know that we need to undergo some changes for the betterment of the community but the government should balance all the factors, resources, and should consider the statistics in all perspective.... Still, more power Urdaneta! :)

Great post crazychick4u! Very informative. I didn't know that rental fees range from 8k to 10k per month. Wow! That is too much for business owners. I would think that 5k would be reasonable but 10k?!

So you do own a business esteblishment the public market? Is there a way for you business owners to give your side of the story? Maybe an email address or any way to contact the city officials especially Coun. San Juan? We need to knock some sense into them. The 2nd floor of bldg 1 is completely empty. The 3rd floor houses only 4 establishments: Game House, a billiard hall, internet cafe & Bingo. Bldg 2's 2nd floor is also dead empty.

Just lower the fees & wait till the entire public market gets stacked with business establishments. With the lowered fees, more businesses will surely come. Yes, it will hurt the city income-wise at the start but officials should think long term. They should not wait until more businesses close down. If this happens, the grand public market will be worth nothing.

am sori for the mis-information, i didnt mean Kgwd or Councilor Ramil San Juan but City Admin. Ronald San Juan...my apologies. :-[ Nway, we did try to approach Mayor nd Ronald but the best thing they were able to do for us is too extend our due dates nd they allowed some of us to keep our stalls even if we hadnt paid for 3-5 mos. But i'll be glad to gather and pass more info re:fees nd new public market policies. And i'll appreciate all the help I can get from you guys. I'll be going home this weekend nd hopefully, i could find tym to do that. thanks again. :)

Wala bang pasok sa lunes? I might go home too. :)

Can you post here or maybe PM me the rates/fees or any info re: the public market? An email add of the city admin would be ideal. Since there's nothing that would hold people back from speaking up about their concerns thanks to web anonimity. :)

Cool. Thanks! :)

For the city admin email add, you can just PM me & others who would ask for it. Let's not broadcst his email add. We don't want Mr. San Juan changing his email add & us losing a means of contacting him because of the unusually high number of mails (hate mail, spam, etc.) he might be receiving. ;D
