this is a very diputs statement. you don't know what you are talking about dude. information such as medical condition is disclosed only to concerned parties and only the md's have the right and the sole responsibility to tell their patients about their prognosis. once the md tells the prognosis/diagnosis, that's the only time nurses step in to educate patients and become their advocate you thought nurses should be. the truth is, the patient's economic condition determines how much services they can be provided with. unless it is basic nursing services of course, nurses can provide those. make good in your review. papasa ka rin. Nurses at Sacred Heart Hospital should know what is PATIENT ADVOCACY!!! They should speak on behalf of their patient in order to protect their rights and help them obtain needed information and services. They should frequently assume that role!! If a patient asks what's his/her condition, the nurse doesn't give the needed information. The nurse only says, "Only the doctors know.. hahaha! is that right?

I agree with numernouno. Once a doctor-patient contractual relationship is made, confidentiality of all information obtained by the physician should be ensured. It is against the law for the physician to divulge any information obtained from the patient unless the patient of legal age agrees disclosure of information. The physician may or may not tell his team (nurses, paramedicals, etc.) of the condition of the patient, but that depends upon the agreement between the physician and the patient.
A doctor may or may not need assistance from other health professionals, but if he does, he orders his subordinates particular instructions for the patient. This act does not necessarily require that nurses be informed of the diagnosis, but usually they (nurses) are informed. Most of the time, nurses are able to diagnose their patients' condition even without anyone informing them.
And yes, the sad truth is, a patient's financial capacity usually dictates how much medical attention and service he obtains, which shouldn't be the case, as everyone has a right to be given equal medical attention.
To respond to pokwe, I just think you need to rethink what patient advocacy means. You are not required nor allowed by law to speak in behalf of your patient, because the patient should speak for himself/herself if he is of legal age, or his legal guardians if he is not. What your could do instead, is to empower your patient or his parents/guardians so the patient's concerns are dealt with sufficiently.
