We've been staying in Urdaneta for more than a year now and there are lots of question's i wanted to know the answers....
We all know that Urdaneta was indeed a rich city among the municipalities of pangasinan... but where do this incomes spend? don't they want to spend a little but worthwhile parks for the city?....

Welcome to UCO snaofunk89! So you just relocated to Urdaneta recently (just over a year)? Where are you from originally? Let's answer your queries one by one. Q: Why are there no parks? A: Well there are parks but nothing of the Baguio Burham Park type. This had always been an issue. The only parks I know of are the Mayor's Park (beside the old city hall), the Balikbayan Park (in Gracia Village) & the Park/Plaza within the New City Hall compound. I've always been irked by the fact that Urdaneta being a city not blessed with natural tourist spots and yet manages to become the richest city in the region does not spend a lick on parks & recreational facilities. There's hope though. This year could be the year we've been waiting for. According to Mayor Perez, the city council's focus for this year is the Environment & Livelihood. Refer to this thread: urdaneta.proboards37.com/index.cgi?board=ucnd&action=display&thread=195. Another good news is that a statue, mural & park in honor of Fr. Andres de Urdaneta (whom the city was named after) will be designed by FIVE NATIONAL ARTISTS & will be built in front of the new city hall. Refer to this thread: urdaneta.proboards37.com/index.cgi?board=ucnd&action=display&thread=225. *You mentioned that Urdaneta is a rich city among Pangasinan towns. Correct, but did you know that Urdaneta is THE richest city in the entire Region 1? Check this thread out: urdaneta.proboards37.com/index.cgi?board=ucnd&action=display&thread=221Q: Where do the officials spend the income? A: In recent years, Urdaneta had been paying a debt amounting to P400+M courtesy of the previous administration. What was this loan for, you might ask. Well, this was intended for the new city hall, unpaid electric bills & the UC Mall. P90M was spent building the city hall if I remember correctly. Now, that leaves us with P300+M. Part of it was used to pay the overdue electric bills. Now comes the intriguing part... What happened to UC Mall? You know, the one that was supposed to be built between Magic Mall & Urdaneta I Central School. I guess the better question is, where did the funds for building UC mall go? I think the answer is pretty obvious & I don't want to spend my time discussing that since it will be off topic and might take forever to discuss. Let's just say Urdaneta has not had genuinely honest & good officials for quite a long time. The good news is that the Perez administration has now paid the huge debt and now they have more financial freedom and hopefully invest in worthwhile projects for the good of our city. Q: Don't they want to spend a little on parks? A: Now that Urdaneta is debt free, they might & hopefully they will. Hope this helps.

Thanks for bringing up the issue. And while at this, can someone please help me find the socio-economic profile of Urdaneta? Thanks.

PLease READ!!! EDITED edition of my preiviously posted MESSAGE. pasensiya na kasi namadali akong nagtype.
Urdaneta City has been a big potential tourist destination I've realized during my childhood days. We live at the downtown. The downtown during those times is elegantly historic. I see the houses in the street are so beautiful. These are old -Spanish or old English style. The Plaza is surrounded by old pre-historic Acacia tree that blooms gracefully. BUT presently those pretty trees are devastated and cemented their roots. The wide children park in front of central school that used to be a mall turned to a lake of trashes and garbage. These are the symptoms of City’s little attention about the greenery and nature. Urdaneta city transformed into dusty and very hot community(global warming). i believe that urdanetians have great love of greenery and parks and they have huge interest/hobby of gardenning, planting ornaments and holticure. I hope the city officials shall execute proper and substantially sufficient action to aforementioned concerns. Greenery, Ecological and pro-environmental projects and programs will provide a great promises of economic, socio-cultural and environmental prosperity brought by bullish tourism, clean & healthy community and God loving citizen. These are some suggested implementations we expect to be executed: *Landscaping of Urdaneta Downtown highways and roads (pocket gardens) - to minimize pollution emitted by smoke belching vehicles, -to regulate traffic and prevent accidents -and road embellishments *Reviving old acia trees in the downtown (beside plaza, bagsakan and Magic Mall) - These Historical Trees are considered treasures. It is alive witness and souvenier of Urdaneta's History and Development. It shoulde be given proper treatment by dismantling the cemented trunks and roots and letting it bloom and revitalize the old beauty of Urdaneta. *Down town Scenic Parks - Most probably, a placement of City Park in front of the Church would be the BEST.The Cathedral is under renovation and it is enhanced beautifully but the old pretty garden in front of it is turned to a parking space which make it worse. Instead,We suggest to make the front of the Cathedral of Our Patroness be transformed it to a "beautiful garden park" placing a statue of Our Dear Patroness, Immaculate Concepcion. For i know the Curch's vicinity is widened. I hope these Church woul equete the beauty of Baguio Cathedral Church which is visted by may local and foreign tourist because of it's scenic place and beautiful garden and landscaping. * Add more suggestions, I hope bloggers you will also do add your innovatve ideas because it might be a big help for Urdanetas's beautification and progress..thank you May the Lord Jesus Christ bless Us All!

The reason why Urdaneta doesn't have parks because this sleepy town long time ago, is the business center of the North. Southern Luzon, Mindanao and the visayas flock to Urdaneta to buy and sell. If you travel to Manila and Quezon City you will hit the Munoz market where majority of "bagsakan ng gulay" are from Urdaneta. I heard several filipinas from tagalog region used to travel to urdaneta to buy livestock especially "pigs". I remember growing up the McArthur high way in nancayasan is full of "Nigh Clubs" and fruit stands. I asked my grandmother about it, the working ladies from bicol province are also catering pleasure to the visiting business men Urdaneta always have the attachement of " Dr. Orata" " the International Educator" (United Nation). I think he was from Bactad. kaya ang daming school sa Urdaneta kasi si Dr. orata, when he was growing up, he made a promise to built lots of schools in urdaneta. kaya kahit maliitt na barrio sa urdaneta ay may high shcool.

Hi Snaofunk, The park turned out be the front grounds of the New Urdaneta City Hall in Anonas. Here is a couple of shots courtesy of Animo of skyscrapercity. That is the Galleon monument designed by four national artists. Will try to take more pics later. As for this site's inactivity, actually we have experienced the most visits daily, this month. According to the statistics (nasa lower left ng main page of this forum) Most users online (at the same time) was 52, May 18, 2009, 1:01pm Kaya lang konti lang nag post. In time, Urdanetan's will post more and have lively conversation here. Thanks for the input. Main Man

There should be parks for common welfare. I have brothers in Urdaneta who told me about the situation. I guess there is literally no city which doesn't have any park/garden for citizens. Government of Urdaneta must look into the matter and act soon to create beautiful garden with flowers and trees for people.
