Greetings Urdanetans! I am starting this thread so we can talk about public transportation in our city. Discuss what's good & what's not about the current situation and talk about ideas on how things can be improved when it comes to commuting & public transpo.
Post away!

This question triggered me to start this thread: "Why are there no intra-city jeepney routes in Urdaneta?"
Here's what I'm thinking:
1. Establish a PUJ route. Something like a downtown loop.
The main route should look like this: New City Hall -> PSU/PUNP/LNL -> San Vicente Crossing -> UCNHS -> Cultural -> U1CS/Old City Hall/Magic Mall -> Public Market -> CB Mall -> Max's/LNU -> Traverse the entire stretch of MacArthur leading back to the New City Hall.
2. Ban tricycles from entering main thoroughfares within the CBD such as MacArthur Highway & Alexander St. during weekdays. Limit them to barangay routes outside of the commercial areas of Nancayasan, Poblacion, San Vicente & Anonas.
These two things, I think, would decongest the city proper & would limit commuters'encounters with opportunistic tricycle drivers. Commuters would only have to pay the standard jeepney rate of Php 8-8.50 instead of paying tricycle drivers "maysa nga biyahe" (around Php 20-30) for such a short travel distance.

My wife and I visited Urdaneta last 2003, we observed that there were too many tricycles in the city...somewhat an eyesore. Your idea or a concept similar to "downtown" jeepneys in Dagupan is what i have in mind for years. I hope it would progress and this will help decongest the city.

Yeah, I do hope the administration (current or future) gives this some serious consideration. I'm guessing they're hesitant on this because this would be an unpopular move especially to the tricycle drivers & operators which could cost them precious votes come election time. Hopefully I'm wrong about this.

Ako'y dating Urdanetan. I came for a visit and vacation after 25 years and was surprised what I saw "Unbelievable Change of Urdanetaā€¯ but it deserved. Tama ang korokoro nyo at comments nyo kaya lang ang dapat nyong usisahin o pagsabihan ay yuong mga may mahahabang ngoso na bwayang officiales dahil hindi masusulbar ang traffic maski saan kong nadyang silang lumiligidligid 4 "proteksyon". With just a short period of my stay I noticed the corruptions from both sides of the streets. Your suggestions can happen only "I said ONLY" if those corrupt officials will give way.
