Right-of-way issue delays Urdaneta highway project
URDANETA–The widening of the Maharlika Highway here is now almost complete except for the southern approach to a newly constructed bridge. The government cannot proceed to construct it.
Mayor Amadeo Perez Jr. blames a resident who owns the land where the bridge’s southern approach is located, who does not want to give the right of way unless he is paid higher compensation for his property.
“The property owner wants to be paid more than what was paid other property owners in the area”, Perez said.
Other property owners were paid a uniform price for their lands except the owner of the land en conform to the minimum width of 20 meters.
“Except that one (bridge’s approach), everything is expected to be completed soon including the drainage system in that area,” the mayor said.
Cojuangco pushed for the widening project in lieu of a fly over which was earlier opposed by owners of business establishments in the city’s CBD.

Message to the lot owner: Please let us not be selfish or greedy about this. The road widening project is essential for Urdaneta to further progress. All of the other affected property owners have sold their lots to the government. Please understand that this is for the greater good. The whole city is waiting on you so as an Urdanetan please do your part in making Urdaneta Region 1's premier city. Thank you.
