URDANETA CITY -- The local police is closely watching the fish market in Barangay Camanang to prevent criminals from victimizing people doing business in the area.
City Police Chief Rodolfo Castil Jr. said the privately-owned fish market or bagsakan operates daily from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m.
The fish for trading comes from Navotas, Malabon and Western Pangasinan.
Wholesale buyers, on the other hand, come from La Union, Baguio, Tarlac and Eastern and Western Pangasinan.
"You can just imagine the volume of money changing hands here everyday," Castil stated.
He said the first thing he checked at the fish market when he earlier assumed as chief-of-police were the entry and exit points.
"It will be hard to secure the area from criminals if there are so many exit areas. So, the first thing I proposed to the fish market operators and to the businessmen doing business there (to which they agreed) is to have a single entrance and exit. We also regularly conduct mobile patrol at the vicinity of the fish market," he said.
The fish market has its own security personnel guarding the area.
