This has been a longstanding issue since nursing has become one of the factors that has helped Urdaneta grow as a center for learning in Pangasinan.
Now, after the release of the latest results of the Nursing Board Exam, people are talking about them with mixed emotions. May mga proud na proud. Meron din namang hiyang hiya.
Except for hearsays, I do not know the exact figures of the passing rate of each nursing school in Urdaneta.
Would anyone from these schools care to post them?

Hey there silverjaws! I took the liberty to get the percentages online & post the info here. Board Exams (not necessarily Nursing) are of particular interest to me.
I think these are the five largest Urdaneta-based educational institutions offering nursing:
URDANETA CITY UNIVERSITY/CITY COLLEGE OF URDANETA (URDANETA COMM. COLL.)
FIRST TIMER
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 19 | 54 | 0 | 73 | 26% |
REPEATER
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 15 | 365 | 0 | 380 | 4% |
TOTAL
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 34 | 419 | 0 | 453 | 8% |
PANGASINAN STATE UNIVERSITY - URDANETA
FIRST TIMER
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 1 | 4 | 0 | 5 | 20% |
REPEATER
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 1 | 4 | 0 | 5 | 20% |
TOTAL
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 2 | 8 | 0 | 10 | 20% |
LYCEUM NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY-FLORENCIA T. DUQUE COLLEGE
FIRST TIMER
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 100% |
REPEATER
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 5 | 30 | 0 | 35 | 14% |
TOTAL
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 6 | 30 | 0 | 36 | 17% |
LYCEUM OF NORTHERN LUZON
FIRST TIMER
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 9 | 32 | 0 | 41 | 22% |
REPEATER
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 6 | 103 | 0 | 109 | 6% |
TOTAL
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 15 | 135 | 0 | 150 | 10% |
PANGASINAN COLLEGE OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY/PAN-PACIFIC UNIVERSITY - NORTHERN PHILIPPINES
FIRST TIMER
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 27 | 59 | 0 | 86 | 31% |
REPEATER
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 3 | 51 | 0 | 54 | 6% |
TOTAL
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 30 | 110 | 0 | 140 | 21% |
The schools above can be ranked according to total passing percentage as follows:
1. PCST/PUNP, 21% 2. PSU, 20% 3. LNU, 17% 4. LNL, 10%
& lastly..
5. UCU, 8%
According to total number of examinees:
1. UCU, 453 2. LNL, 150 3. PCST/PUNP, 140 4. LNU, 36 5. PSU, 10
It really doesn't make sense that UCU has the most number of examinees but has the lowest passing percentage among the five schools.
Not to brag but to give a clear example of how a good university performs, here are the percentages of my alma mater:
SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY, BAGUIO CITY
FIRST TIMER
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 408 | 8 | 0 | 416 | 98% |
REPEATER
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 1 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 50% |
TOTAL
PASSED | FAILED | CONDITIONAL | TOTAL | % PASSED | 409 | 9 | 0 | 418 | 98% |
Compare the numbers above with the national percentages of 27,765 out of 64,459 or 43.07%. As a rule of thumb, a school with a passing percentage equal or greater than the national passing rate is considered a good school while those below it are underperforming. From the numbers above, NONE of the Urdaneta schools came close to the national passing rate. I would consider this very alarming. We wouldn't want our schools to be dubbed as "diploma mills". These schools should strive to become Centers of Excellence just like SLU. It might take time but it is possible.

wow, thanks tracymack.
the results are alarming indeed.
what i heard before for UCU as that only 8 passed. at least this is hard data showing 8%.
All the schools as well as the graduates and even the current students need to take a long hard look on why these numbers are staring us at the face.

frankly speaking, ucu management/admins/educators are ignorant of statistics. they keep using the same review center over and over despite the decline in the numbers of graduates able to pass the board. it is sad they don't know how to read numbers other than numbers that can never be discussed openly in public.
it is amazing how these people can keep their job when statistics tells them they are a FAILURE.
