Hey guys,
The last time I went home (which seems like an eternity) I saw that Chowking Urduja was closed for renovation & I was also told that the hotel itself was undergoing rehab.
Is it true? Any updates?
Thanks!

Yes, it is true about the hotel.
On chowking though, it seems like they moved the staff to the newest one on McArthur highway. I see the familiar faces at least.

That's because Chowking-Urduja & Chowking-S Plaza is owned by the same person. That person also owns some of Urdaneta's modern buildings, the EF Square, S Plaza, Speed building & some other buildings. I guess the Chowking people do rotation & work some days in Urduja & some days in S Plaza.
Anyway, that's good news re: Urduja Hotel!

Photo updates: Looks like they're really tearing the whole thing apart. I hope they radically change the design or at least the facade.

Hello. I really felt sad looking at the state of the Urduja Hotel. It used to be the best hotel in the province of Pangasinan.

Hello llondoner, I didn't know Urduja was the best hotel in Pangasinan.. Anyway the ongoing demolition might be good. Maybe they are trying to build a bigger & better Urduja Hotel. Who knows?

Yes, Urduja Hotel used to be one of the best hotels in Pangasinan. This was during the 70's to early 80's... Marcos era. This was the peak of tourism in the Philippines. There used to be a lot of European and american tourist. They love the pool on the 2nd ?3rd floor. My cousin used to be a receptionist in this hotel (Hello Cousin Beth). I hope they will make this hotel to a better one. The Logo "U" used to be an icon. The ground floor used to be a souvenir shop and stationary shop. I used to buy Sanrio items, postcards, Voltes V stickers etc when I was young. He! He! I am getting older. I really used to love looking at this wonderful hotel.

Hi Richard, Sanrio items? Like Hello Kitty? Hehe ;D I knew Urduja was a good hotel but no THAT good. I was born in '82 so I guess I didn't get to see Urduja in its heyday. Thanks to you & llondoner for the info. It's always nice to know about Urdaneta of the past. PS: Please register to make your membership in these forums official. Thanks, tracymack

During the Marcos era, former first lady used to visit Urdaneta with her elegant Filipiniana dresses. There used to be a lot of tourist visiting Urdaneta. Urduja hotel was beautiful and elegant. When I saw Urduja Hotel during the 70's...it is full of Filipiniana furnitures...amazing sights inside. Thanks Richard for the info, the ground floor used to be a souvenir shop. Full of Phillipine made products and beautiful views of the country's scenic spot. I even saw Barong Tagalog, shell products etc. The tourist also love to visit Urdaneta with its yearly fiesta and Agro- Industrial Fair exhibits. It showcased the different Barangays and schools of Urdaneta and even towns of Pangasinan. There are Cultural shows showcasing Filipino folk dances, choir competitions (Filipino Folk songs) and wonderful Filipiniana dresses. The Fiesta parade is always elegant. From elementary to high school and colleges, we were always told by our teachers to wear Philippine costumes. The tourist used to clap and appreciate our Philippine attires. Imelda Marcos loved pageantry and elegance. We used to be walking really proud. That was the time when the "Bagong Lipunan" was introduced. Marcos is really strict and the people of Urdaneta were extremely disciplined. I was always scolded by my mother and was told not to spit in the streets. I was told not to do that because I will be put to the prison. Jaywalking is also a taboo in the society. Maibabalik pa kaya ang disiplinang ito noong panahon ni Marcos. I know many people hated the Marcoses but Urdaneta was very beautiful during that time. Green revolution was at its best and all the streets and Barangays of Urdaneta were planted with colorful flowers, vegetables and landscaped front gardens.
